COUNTERTOPS

Concrete countertop sealers

Concrete countertops are fast becoming a popular alternative to such other materials as laminate and granite for use in kitchens, workshops, and bathrooms. Concrete countertops offer similar benefits to granite, all while being less expensive. From high gloss concrete coatings to flat, penetrating concrete sealers Ghostshield has you covered. Choose one of the following products to enhance and/or protect the concrete countertops from spills, staining and abrasion:

POLYASPARTIC 745

The longest lasting and best performing countertop sealer we offer. This high gloss, wet look formula is able to withstand food stains, spills, chemicals and abrasions.

The Polyaspartic 745 is typically used in commercial kitchens and bars since it is the most durable countertop sealer available. The Polyaspartic 745 can also be used on warehouse floors and is able to stand up to forklift traffic, chemicals and abrasions so using it on a concrete countertop is a no brainer. The 745 can only be used on interior concrete countertops and leaves the surface with a high gloss finish. Since it is a coating rather than a sealer it sits on top of the concrete providing a smooth surface environment that allows for easy clean up and completely stops anything from penetrating through it. Before applying the 745 we recommend sanding the concrete countertop with a 220 grit pad to ensure the surface has enough porosity for the coating to adhere to. The Polyaspartic 745 is sold in a 2 part kit, so you need to mix Part A with Part B. It has a short workable life, which means once you mix Part A with Part B you have about 15 minutes to apply it before it begins to harden and is unworkable. You do need to let the countertop dry for at least a full 24 hours before use. Once cured you are left with an extremely durable, high gloss concrete countertop.

Countertop 880

Use this product if you do not want to the change the look or feel of the countertop but need protection from water and light spills. Since it is a solvent carried product it will outperform the 770.

The Countertop Sealer 880 is a solvent-carried food safe (once cured) sealer that will not change the look or appearance of the concrete countertop whatsoever. The 880 leaves a similar finish to the 770; however, its high actives content, ease of application, deeper penetration and longer lifespan set it apart. The 880 is able to resist light staining from household substances causing fluids to sit on top of the concrete rather than penetrating into the concrete giving you a few extra minutes time to wipe up the spill. The Countertop Sealer 880 is easy to apply and is ready to use right out of the container - no mixing is required. Two coats wet-on-wet (immediately apply a second coat while the first coat is still wet) are recommended. Use in conjunction with a countertop wax for an extra layer or protection.

Countertop 770

Also a natural finish countertop sealer that provides all of the benefits of the 880 but in a water-based formulation

The Countertop Sealer 770 is a non-toxic, water-based, food safe sealer that will not enhance the concrete or leave a sheen. If you are looking to keep the concrete countertops looking natural, or completely the same after sealing as they were prior to sealing the 770 is the product for you. The 770 is also able to resists light staining from household substances causing the fluids to sit on top of the concrete rather than penetrating into the concrete giving you a few extra minutes time to wipe up the mess. The Countertop Sealer 770 is easy to apply and is sold as a concentrated product. Simply mix the concentrated solution with 3 parts water and roll or brush the sealer over the countertop. Immediately apply a second coat while the first coat is still wet. After the surface has dried, your countertops will be fully protected. Use in conjunction with a countertop wax for an extra layer or protection.

Countertop Sealer 660

If you are looking for a little bit of shine that is not overly glossy but still able provide protection from light spills, use this product

If you are looking for a low sheen finish on your concrete countertops that is not as glossy as the 745 but not as flat as the 770 and 880, the 660 is an excellent option. Especially since is completely non-toxic, water-based and safe for interaction with food once cured. The Countertop Sealer 660 is easy to apply; simply mix the concentrated solution with equal parts water and spread the solution over the countertop with a rag for five minutes. Continuously make sure the countertop is wet for the whole five minutes, then let the sealer completely penetrate into the concrete without wiping it up. After the surface has dried, apply another coat at a 3:1 ratio of sealer to water, which will help fully protect your countertops. Use in conjunction with a countertop wax for an extra layer or protection.

Countertop WAX

Add extra shine and durability by finishing off the concrete countertop with a natural countertop wax

The Countertop wax can by used with the Countertop 660, Countertop 770 and Countertop 880 to give the surface an extra wear layer of protection. You can wax your concrete surface 48 hours after the sealer passes the water drop test. Several thin invisible applications of a concrete wax are recommended. Apply wax with a sponge wax applicator. Apply a thin coat of wax in a circular pattern, working on 2 square foot area at a time. Immediately after applying the wax (before it dries), use a clean cloth to wipe off excess wax—it will seem like you’ve wiped up all of the wax but you will be leaving behind an invisible layer of wax protection on the surface. Repeat this process three times. Once the entire countertop has been waxed, use a buffing pad to buff out the finish. If needed, use a 0000# steel wool pad to lightly buff out streaking or unevenness in the wax finish. We recommend waxing monthly; it protects and beautifies the surface finish while enhancing the countertop sealer beneath.
